When the Regent Theatre opened on 4 July 1930 it was described as "The Theatre Beautiful", and that it was creating "an entirely new standard of entertainment."
With the re-opening as the Regent on Broadway in 1 May1998 that description could still stand.
The 1600 seat theatre was hailed as one of the country's top six movie theatres in the early 1960's. It was one of the largest built in New Zealand and became a landmark in the city as well as attracting national attention.
Today, as a 1393 seat venue, the Regent on Broadway can still claim to be one of New Zealands finest performing arts facilities, indeed one of the top four in the country.

"We enjoyed being right in the city, able to walk to everything, but very quiet inside our room. The children were kept amused with the activities on-site (for free) which gave my wife and I some space. The suite was really clean and the shower is amazing We found the staff friendly and very helpful. The DVD library is a great idea, and free. We stayed for 8 days and the selection of movies was changed after we had been there 5 days. The internet connection is really fast, great for catching up on news from home, and keeping an eye on the business"
